Society and Morality

Duct Tape Fairy Wings…  That is right, I am reclaiming my title as the Duct Tape Diva!  It is funny how over board we end up going for birthday parties and celebrations.  The amount of money that people spend on weddings and parties, anniversaries and events that will only last a few hours.  I think I spent around 45 hours preparing my younger daughter’s birthday party and I will be on-course to do the same with my older daughter’s if I do what I am thinking.  What a first world problem.  Much of the rest of the world is just trying to make it to their next birthday and here I am, making a HUGE deal over my daughter’s 5th.

Society has told us that so much is normal now.  A “cheap” wedding costs at least $10,000, although the average amount spent is ridiculously higher.  People spend so much on a short amount of pleasure.  Society gives us these norms, tells us our birthday parties have to be over the top, that girls’ night is a must and grabbing a drink or having sex isn’t a big deal anymore.  Society is poisoning morality.  Morality- having morals, knowing what is right and wrong and doing that no matter what.

Matthew 10 says that we will be hated because of Jesus’ name.  Bring it on- hate me for standing up for what I believe in.  Society has made the God fearing Christian a terrible person.  They hate the fact that Christians don’t agree with everything they are saying and doing and they call us closed-minded.  They call us hate mongers because we don’t agree with everything society has told us is okay.

So I read Matthew 10- I suggest you read it – it is great! http://bible.cc/matthew/10.htm is a good source for it.  I am still going over the top with my daughter’s birthday party.  I don’t think that necessarily disrupts morality as long as I keep in mind that it is one day, and I spend just as much time, effort and money giving back to the world. Keep in mind – do everything with prayer and petition!  Present everything to the Lord.  Read His word, study it and know what His heart is.

do I mis-use the Bible?

WOW!   This morning I sat and started to read through Ecclesiastes.   I don’t know if the author of Ecclesiastes, Perhaps King Solomon, had a very sarcastic view on life or if he was just babbling.   But I can definitely see how this book could get a lot of people into trouble if they don’t know the full book or continue to read.   There are verses in there that say things like; eat, drink and enjoy the days on earth because they are meaningless, it is good to enjoy your time on earth and do not worry about anything. To get the full meaning of the book, you need to read it all- the true gems are the last two verses.   This book was written by someone (according to my study Bible) that was near the end of his life, he sees man in pursuit of so many things and vainly pursuing hopes and expectations- but faith teaches him that God has ordered all things according to his own purposes and that we need to accept our limitations.   The last two verses are the wr...

What do you fight about?

I heard a blood curdling scream from the other room, followed by the cries of my other child and then a smack.   I had been sitting at the computer, and leaned my head back closed my eyes, took a deep breath and went to encounter the argument head on.   Apparently my youngest daughter was playing with a stuffed giraffe that my oldest daughter sometimes sleeps with.   Amidst the crying and tears, I was able to formulate the events that took place.   My youngest daughter had gone to the toy room and gotten the giraffe (a green 16” giraffe with brown spots) out of the room and brought it into the other room.   Here, the older sister saw that the coveted giraffe was not in her room and grabbed it from her sister.   The younger one screamed and bit the older sister who then cried and hit the little sister.   As I took another cleansing breath I began dealing with the issue at hand.   It is very difficult to reason with a 2 and 3 year old and let alone ...

Don't throw fits!

Yesterday I blogged about how we need to be like little children.   Jesus loves the little children.   He tells us that if we are not like them, we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.   I HAVE little children and they are amazing, but I have to assume that little children back in the day didn’t throw public fits or kick and scream and want their way.   Proof is actually in the Bible – they didn’t have the media helping their kids learn to curse their parents all the time.   The punishment for going against your father and mother were harsh!   See Leviticus 20:9 “If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death.   He has cursed his father or his mother, and his blood will be on his own head.” God wants us to be like the little children that he writes about in the Bible, not necessarily the kids that we see all the time around us now.   Some are very well behaved, but some just aren’t.   I can only assume that He wants us to foll...
