I just want to be a sheep....

I just want to be a Sheep – bahhh bahhhh bahhhh bahhh, I just want to be a sheep, bahhhh bahhhhh bahhhh bahhhh – I pray the LORD my soul to keep, I just want to be a sheep, bahhhhh bahhhh bahhhh bahhhh.   Have you ever heard that song?   It is one of my favorite all time kids songs.   It is fun to sing, it has the best motions and it actually has meaning!   Being a sheep, being a follower of Jesus, letting Jesus be our shepherd and following him.   He may be leading us through a rough area to get to greener pastures, but we are his sheep.   If we get lost- he ensures the other sheep are safe, and comes looking around for us.   He protects us overnight from wolfs and from other animals.   He is our shepherd. The song then continues: I don’t want to be a Pharisee (unt uh…), I don’t want to be a Pharisee (no way) ‘cause their not fair, you see….   I don’t want to be a Pharisee.     Why????   * sing the sheep part again* W...

Perfect Timing...

I am blessed by attending and belonging to a church that has a great pastor who challenges my life weekly.   I am actually dreading the fact that the next two weeks, we will not be in service.   Pastor Snow said something amazing and striking and I wanted to share it with you.   Some times the simplest things are the most profound things that can really change you.   He said, “we never know God’s timing, but God is always on time.” When I was in high school, I felt really called to the mission field.   I really felt like I was supposed to be an international missionary and travel around the world sharing God’s good news.   I then went to a Christian college and met my fantastically amazing husband- who happens to not be called to international ministry.   Humm….   So why would God put us together?   It really was a God thing that we ended up together since I dumped him on his 21 st birthday!   (in my defense we hadn’t been together all...

do I mis-use the Bible?

WOW!   This morning I sat and started to read through Ecclesiastes.   I don’t know if the author of Ecclesiastes, Perhaps King Solomon, had a very sarcastic view on life or if he was just babbling.   But I can definitely see how this book could get a lot of people into trouble if they don’t know the full book or continue to read.   There are verses in there that say things like; eat, drink and enjoy the days on earth because they are meaningless, it is good to enjoy your time on earth and do not worry about anything. To get the full meaning of the book, you need to read it all- the true gems are the last two verses.   This book was written by someone (according to my study Bible) that was near the end of his life, he sees man in pursuit of so many things and vainly pursuing hopes and expectations- but faith teaches him that God has ordered all things according to his own purposes and that we need to accept our limitations.   The last two verses are the wr...

Am I in God's will?

I have been asked to do something that I don’t really agree with.   I am stuck between a rock and a hard place.   This isn’t the only time that I have had this situation arise.   I don’t feel that I should get into the details of this in a public forum, but it is something that is one of those decisions that you have to think, is it going to affect my ministry?   It is something that will bless my ministry but I just don’t know how yet?   So what do you do?   What should I do when presented with a situation that is making me question my morals and ethics? Maybe this is actually a God situation – making me be sure I know where I stand on issues and where I stand with Him.   Maybe it is God asking me- do you trust me enough to step out in faith?   Now, with that said, the Lord does ask us to do some crazy things.   He asked Abraham to uproot his entire family and move to Ur.   He asked a teenager, who was a virgin, to carry Jesus and beco...

Personal Responsiblity!

When I was working in Human Recourses there is something that always got to me.   Our culture today takes very little responsibility.   There were days that I wanted to scream at them, “you do your job because that is what you are hired and paid to do!!!!!”   Doing interviews and dealing with the employees I would hear excuses like “It wasn’t my fault that I couldn’t come to work, I got arrested.”   Or “I don’t do the drugs, I just make them.”    In temporary staffing, you end up hearing the most amazing excuses.   People don’t seem to have a sense of responsibility any more but instead a sense of entitlement.   That they deserve the job even though they failed their drug test or haven’t been able to keep a job longer than 2 weeks.   Oh the stories I could tell….   It seemed that very few people actually wanted to work, they just wanted to get paid.   Every so often, you would get an amazing employee who would blow your socks off, b...

predictions...

We were all privileged to see the recent hype about the end of the world coming n May 21 st 2011.   The time came and passed without a rapture, without an earthquake, without a storm…   What were those people thinking and feeling?   This prediction made so many question Christianity and question God in general.   Now there were some good aspects of this prediction.   It got people thinking and talking about salvation and their eternal destiny… and, well, that is all I can think of.   Now lets look at what the non-Christian’s saw: a man, claiming to know the answer, claiming that he was right, who had a following, a way to spread his message and an amazing amount of money which usually makes you right in America.   If you were a non-Christian and you saw this guy talking and then May 21 st came and went, you would either think that Christianity was a crock, or that everything that the Bible says is a lie because his equation came from the Bible. ...

Stumbling Block

Recently, one of my Christian friends posted something a little controversial on facebook.   I know that she is a Christian and I know that she has a heart for God, but this remark made others question that heart for God.   One of the joys of living in America is the freedom of speech.   We can say what we want to say without any LEGAL recourse.   Granted there is a lot of other recourse that we have to deal with, but legally, we are able to say what we want to, when we want to.   We are able to have opinions and express them freely without threat of imprisonment.   As Christians, do we have that right? That is a great concept, but when you use freedom of speech, it isn’t always beneficial to you.   It isn’t always the legal recourse that we need to be considering.   As a Christian, and a child of God, we need to be considering not the legal ramifications, but the spiritual ramifications.   If we say something, or do something that is agains...
