Why Should I Go to Church?

I saw somewhere that this was “National Sister’s Week.”  There are so many days, weeks, moths to honor things!  There is Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparent’s Day…  There are days for remembering veterans, and those fallen and important people.  There are days specifically set apart for Jesus’ birth and resurrection.  There are days for bosses, and secretaries.  There are more days and months set up than there are actual days in a year.  Some days have three or four things on each day.

Honestly though, why do we need a “day” to remember these things?  Shouldn’t we be thankful and grateful for our family, bosses, GOD every day.  Shouldn’t we be celebrating the great things in our life EVERY day – not just on specific days?  Granted –it is fun to get gifts and presents on special days.  Getting pampered isn’t bad either, but why do that only on a specific day?

Why is it around Christmas and Easter the church attendance really spikes?  They want to give God their one day.  There are a lot of C&E (Christmas and Easter) Christians out there…  They come when they feel the need to, when there is a reminder that hey – everyone is going to church right now – you should too!

I found a really cool site this morning on “Why Christians Should Go to Church”  it is at http://www.victorious.org/whygo.htm.  It says that
1)      It is an expression of Love for our God- Psalms 22:22 says that we should declare his name in the midst of brethren
2)      It builds up our spiritual Strength.  "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Rom. 10:17).
3)      It brings special visitation into the Lord’s presence.  Mat 18: 20 says where two or more are gathered- there He is also
4)      It provides fellowship with other Christians "He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him" (1 John 2:9-10).
5)      It is an act of obedience to God!  James 4:17
6)      It provides Spiritual accountability 1 Thes. 5:12
7)      It honors the Lord’s day!  Ex. 20:8

It is crucial and vital that we go to church- even on days that we don’t “feel like it” or on days that we are totally busy.  Now I say this as I am preparing to MISS church this weekend due to a family trip that couldn’t be avoided, but I truly will MISS my church.  I will miss the fellowship with my brothers and sisters and also the corporate worship time.  I will miss all the joys that fellowshipping with my friends and my God brings.  Fortunately for me I had a great time of fellowship with some of my church family last night.

On days that you have to miss, I know God understands, but it is important to make a habit of going to church and honoring His love and life….

do I mis-use the Bible?

WOW!   This morning I sat and started to read through Ecclesiastes.   I don’t know if the author of Ecclesiastes, Perhaps King Solomon, had a very sarcastic view on life or if he was just babbling.   But I can definitely see how this book could get a lot of people into trouble if they don’t know the full book or continue to read.   There are verses in there that say things like; eat, drink and enjoy the days on earth because they are meaningless, it is good to enjoy your time on earth and do not worry about anything. To get the full meaning of the book, you need to read it all- the true gems are the last two verses.   This book was written by someone (according to my study Bible) that was near the end of his life, he sees man in pursuit of so many things and vainly pursuing hopes and expectations- but faith teaches him that God has ordered all things according to his own purposes and that we need to accept our limitations.   The last two verses are the wr...

Center of God's Will

I was very blessed to go over to some new friend’s home last night and talk with them and others about life in general.   As the topic turned solely to missions late in the evening (as this couple used to travel around bringing the good news to kids around the world, and then lived in a different country for 3 years sharing the gospel) I said something like, it must feel amazing to be right in the center of God’s Will.   To have to rely on Him for protection from the most random events; to have to rely on God to take you out of situations that are dangerous; to rely on Him for every provision that you are given; and most importantly, to be brining the message of Christ to all nations under heaven.   Can you imagine?   Knowing that you are supposed to be right where you are, doing what you are doing, right when you are doing it because you have to, and have chosen to, rely on God for every little aspect of your life.   Well friends, I am not out spreading the me...

Don't throw fits!

Yesterday I blogged about how we need to be like little children.   Jesus loves the little children.   He tells us that if we are not like them, we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.   I HAVE little children and they are amazing, but I have to assume that little children back in the day didn’t throw public fits or kick and scream and want their way.   Proof is actually in the Bible – they didn’t have the media helping their kids learn to curse their parents all the time.   The punishment for going against your father and mother were harsh!   See Leviticus 20:9 “If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death.   He has cursed his father or his mother, and his blood will be on his own head.” God wants us to be like the little children that he writes about in the Bible, not necessarily the kids that we see all the time around us now.   Some are very well behaved, but some just aren’t.   I can only assume that He wants us to foll...
