I have read devotions many mornings, just like this one, and thought- “so and so needs to read this and get convicted”. Is that how devotions are supposed to wok? Although certain devotions should speak to certain people’s hearts, it is important to remember that they need to speak to our hearts first and foremost. We are the ones needing and desiring the quiet time with God. We are the ones that need to be transformed. It really brings to mind the song “Open the Eyes of my Heart Lord.”
I think now a days, most people have heard and are in love with this song. The lyrics are:
Open the eyes of my heart Lord,
Open the eyes of my heart.
I want to see you,
I want to see you.
Open the eyes of my heart Lord,
Open the eyes of my heart.
I want to see you,
I want to see you.
To see You high and lifted up,
Shining in the light of Your glory.
Pour out Your power and love,
As we sing holy, holy, holy…..
When we do devotions, and spend time with God, it is a time that we are allowed to be somewhat selfish. We ARE allowed to seek what God wants from us. It is a time to dive into the Word of God and really see what the Lord is speaking to US.
Luke 6:41-2 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your bother’s eye.”
