Raise a Child to know God and they might amaze you!

Proverbs 22:6 “Raise a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”

This weekend we embarked on a family adventure.  My 3 year old was sick, but my 2 year old was hyper and my husband was dieing to go camping.  So we loaded up the car, loaded up the dogs, loaded up the kids and off we went.  It amazes me how much stuff you have to bring when you go camping for just ONE night.

We chose a beautiful campsite, in a beautiful location with beautiful, leave changing tree lined trails to hike.  We loaded up our kids again and went to go hiking.  My 3 year old, still not feeling well, had me carry her the entire time, daddy wasn’t going to cut it.  When we finally got back to camp, I had to just sit down.  I was beat.  My oldest climbed on my lap and asked me to sing.  The night before that, we had had a group of people over our house for a Bon-Fire-Bible study.  I asked her what she wanted and she requested songs from that night.  It was beautiful to hear her little off key voice trying to sing along with me.

My husband started the fire and we sat around to cook the camping staple of hotdogs.  After, they were eaten, we sat and talked and sang.  My husband had my 2 year old who is just learning the intricacies of language.  As we looked up into the multi-colored tree canopy, we were drawn closer to God by seeing his amazing beauty.  My husband asked my 2 year old what she saw up there.  We were prepared for her to say leaves, or the different colors the leaves were changing, or birds as she is constantly finding them and is in love with any type of bird, but instead she floored us by saying, “I see Jesus.”

So we said, is Jesus up there?  Her response was, “yes, Jesus up there.”  Nothing like a 2 year old to remind you that Jesus is there and is everywhere.  There were a lot of moments like this with our children this overnight trip we took.  When our 3 year old asked us since God and Jesus were in our hearts, who was in their hearts?  Or when we looked into the lake and she said, God made all this?  Lately, our 3 year old has been very talkative about Jesus and God since we read our kids a Bible story before bed time every night.  Now that our 2 year old has started too, my heart is melting.

So, in closing, I want to share the question that we ask our children before bed every night.  “And who is Jesus?”  their response, “Jesus is GOD!”  Usually yelled like that.  Lets remember today that Jesus IS God and if a child can see it, then why can’t we too?

Center of God's Will

I was very blessed to go over to some new friend’s home last night and talk with them and others about life in general.   As the topic turned solely to missions late in the evening (as this couple used to travel around bringing the good news to kids around the world, and then lived in a different country for 3 years sharing the gospel) I said something like, it must feel amazing to be right in the center of God’s Will.   To have to rely on Him for protection from the most random events; to have to rely on God to take you out of situations that are dangerous; to rely on Him for every provision that you are given; and most importantly, to be brining the message of Christ to all nations under heaven.   Can you imagine?   Knowing that you are supposed to be right where you are, doing what you are doing, right when you are doing it because you have to, and have chosen to, rely on God for every little aspect of your life.   Well friends, I am not out spreading the me...

Daily Bread

I have a dog.  He is cute , but he is still a dog.  That means that he is reliant on me.  He likes me no matter what, If I am not around him, he flips out a little and has anxiety.  If others try to claim him or take care of him when I'm not around, he growls and barks at them.  My dog's name is Spike .  He is a Yorkie.  I promised my husband if he got me a girlie dog, I would name it something masculine so he wouldn't have to go outside and yell fru fru when calling our dog.  Spike knows that I take care of him.  He knows that my husband and I are the two that take care of him the most.  The kids try to play with him and he runs to us with the toys.  The kids try to take him out and he only comes back when one of us calls him.  He knows our voice and respects our voice.  He also is needy.  Like he relies on us to take him outside to do his business and to feed him and give him water.  Spike will let us know ...

Don't throw fits!

Yesterday I blogged about how we need to be like little children.   Jesus loves the little children.   He tells us that if we are not like them, we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.   I HAVE little children and they are amazing, but I have to assume that little children back in the day didn’t throw public fits or kick and scream and want their way.   Proof is actually in the Bible – they didn’t have the media helping their kids learn to curse their parents all the time.   The punishment for going against your father and mother were harsh!   See Leviticus 20:9 “If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death.   He has cursed his father or his mother, and his blood will be on his own head.” God wants us to be like the little children that he writes about in the Bible, not necessarily the kids that we see all the time around us now.   Some are very well behaved, but some just aren’t.   I can only assume that He wants us to foll...
