My daughter loves her breakfast. The first thing that she does in the morning is ask to eat. There is no “morning mommy” or even a “hi” that escapes her mouth before she says “I wanna eat.” She then will sit there for an hour and eat, and eat. She would eat all morning If I let her. It is usually a 30-minute ordeal, which would go longer, if I didn’t have to get her out the door for preschool. Thirty straight minutes dedicated to eating. I usually have to wake her up so that she will have time to eat before we leave. She is a slow eater, takes her time and enjoys every bite. When she has finished what is in front of her, she sits at the table and asks for more. If I take her from the table before she is full, she cries and throws a fit. She can eat more than I do. It is like she is filling up her tank for the entire day in one sitting. There are some days that breakfast is all that she will eat, she will pick at lunch and eat hardly any dinner (unless it is breakfast food).
Today, there is no pre-school for her and her sister. We get to spend time at home having a day that is non-scheduled. She got to sleep in and now is getting to sit at the table as long as she wants to and eat breakfast. As much breakfast as she wants to eat. She woke up 20 minutes ago and is sitting there shoving her breakfast down, already doubling what I have eaten today.
I was thinking about approaching my Bible study the way that my daughter approaches breakfast every morning. The first thing that I say in the morning is, I want my Bible. Then, I sit there until I am full, want to cry if I don’t get enough. I already wake up earlier to try to get some devotional time in, but it is usually when my kids are waking up also, so my devotional time is not uninterrupted- it is VERY interrupted. If I wake up earlier than usual to get just a few more minutes in with God, I can fill up my tank for the majority of the day and be ready to tackle my day.
I always talk about Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.” As I was reading my Bible this morning and thinking about the time right before Jesus was to be crucified, I realized that He set time apart from everything and everyone and made it a point to fill Himself up, to seek God’s will, not His. He was preparing for spiritual battle with Satan. He was preparing to be cursed, beaten, rejected by his friends and ultimately killed and crucified. He was preparing to go into battle for our souls. Your soul was worth THAT much to Him. He prayed, not my will, but yours be done. WOW! Do we face battles everyday? Spiritual battles? Battles of our children or in the work place? Battles of the mind? YES!!!! We face all these every day.
