Have you ever felt a “calling” a calling to do something
special, to do something amazing in life.
David was called a a young age to be king, Solomon was called to be
wise, Noah was called to save the human race, Moses was called to take the
Israelites out of Egypt, and the list goes on.
Well as I get older I find all sorts of things that I have not
missed my calling in. I have not missed
my calling in; math, science, gardening, teaching young children on a
consistent basis, doctor, nurse, and as I discovered yesterday- painting! However, there are some people who are
extremely talented in these areas.
Although I am not called into these fields, I wouldn’t have known had I
not tried. I wouldn’t have known that I
completely stink at math had I not been able to compute simple things in my
head at a young age. I wouldn’t have
known that gardening isn’t my strong point if I didn’t get out and try it
out. I wouldn’t have known that I
couldn’t hack it as a nurse- oh wait – I knew that one the minute I saw a
needle… The point is, I tried them.
God doesn’t always speak to us through burning bushes. He doesn’t always send someone along to tell
us to put down our nets and follow Jesus.
God doesn’t always spell out for us in black and white what our life should
be dedicated to. However- He does spell
out that whatever we do, we should work at it with all our heart.
Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your
heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,”
Ecclesiastes 9:10 “Whatever
your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you
are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.”
Ephesians 6:7 “Serve
wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men,”
God makes it clear that we need to do things to the best of
our ability, even if we are not called to them. He tells us to do things as if we were serving Him. So even if we don’t know specifically what
we are “called” to do, we need to strive to make sure we do it the best that we
can do it so that we can honor God in it.
No saying “good enough” when a project is near completion (which
happened with one part of my walls…), instead working through to completion
because God is going to work to completion for us.
