rest...

Having a migraine really throws me off.  I shut down.  I get cranky, don’t want to be around anyone and just need to sleep it off usually.  The problems with this, is that they hit often and usually when I am out doing something.  They hit when my youngest decides she has to poo in her diaper and only the women’s room has a changer.  They hit when I am in the middle of a movie where my kids are being completely ridiculous.  They hit on days that I have a lot to do.  They also hit on days that I have nothing to do but watch my kids.  Fortunately, I have a husband who helps me through them if he can.

Yesterday we attempted to take our almost 2 year old and our 3 year old to the movies.  We had taken the 3 year old to another movie before and she had done fine, but this was our 2 year olds first movie.  Well…  the previews were alright, but then the novelty of the movie theater wore off and if you ask me, there is no way that I could tell you what the movie was about at all!  I took the 3 year old to the bathroom 3 times IN A ROW- and then ended up taking the little one into the hallway.  I didn’t even get to see ½ of it.  I really didn’t want to be one of “those” moms that let their kids terrorize somewhere or some place for their own pleasure.  (I didn’t know that my 3 year old was being terrible after I had left…)  Let me tell you though, by the end of the movie, my headache had gone from a normal dull throb to an all out- I am going to have to run into the bathroom and throw up – headache which escalated to the migraine status really fast.

Although I can’t think of one story in the Bible that shows Jesus getting sick, I am sure that he had his share of headaches too.  He never got any rest.  One time, he tried to take a nap on a boat and was woken up by a storm and the yelling from his disciples, and back to work he went.  The only time that he got rest was when he went off by himself and prayed.  The times that he got rest were times that he asked for it.  Times that he excused himself from the situation at hand and made sure he had time with God and time for himself.

I really think that it is important for us to have some time for ourselves.  With kids, work, marriages, work, kids, house work, families…  whatever you have occupying the majority of your time.  It is important for us to rest.  Matthew 11:28-30 says
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Jeremiah 31:25 says” I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.”

For our physical health, we need to ensure that we are taking breaks from life and refreshing ourselves.  For our mental and spiritual health (which directly effects our physical health) we need to ensure that we are going to God and allowing him to give us rest- to satisfy us and refresh us.

The Easter Story with M&Ms

I am preparing for my oldest daughter's school party for Easter.  I was racking my brain trying to figure out a cheap, but awesome party favor to give to everyone.  One of the things that I love about her going to a Christian School is I can do things like this. I looked at all the Easter M&M Poems out there, and didn't really like them, they didn't flow quite right or, which may have bothered me more, they didn't go in the order they set out in the beginning of the poem.  We have a discount grocery store in town and they had large bags of M&Ms on sale for $1.80 so I bought a bunch and will be splitting them up and putting them with this poem that I made up instead.  It is definitely inspired by the Christmas one that is floating around out there and a few of the other Easter ones- so I can't take credit for the creativity of the M W 3 and E idea.... The TRUE Easter story isn't about a bunny - it is about a Salvation - about a Savior that died on the...

predictions...

We were all privileged to see the recent hype about the end of the world coming n May 21 st 2011.   The time came and passed without a rapture, without an earthquake, without a storm…   What were those people thinking and feeling?   This prediction made so many question Christianity and question God in general.   Now there were some good aspects of this prediction.   It got people thinking and talking about salvation and their eternal destiny… and, well, that is all I can think of.   Now lets look at what the non-Christian’s saw: a man, claiming to know the answer, claiming that he was right, who had a following, a way to spread his message and an amazing amount of money which usually makes you right in America.   If you were a non-Christian and you saw this guy talking and then May 21 st came and went, you would either think that Christianity was a crock, or that everything that the Bible says is a lie because his equation came from the Bible. ...

do I mis-use the Bible?

WOW!   This morning I sat and started to read through Ecclesiastes.   I don’t know if the author of Ecclesiastes, Perhaps King Solomon, had a very sarcastic view on life or if he was just babbling.   But I can definitely see how this book could get a lot of people into trouble if they don’t know the full book or continue to read.   There are verses in there that say things like; eat, drink and enjoy the days on earth because they are meaningless, it is good to enjoy your time on earth and do not worry about anything. To get the full meaning of the book, you need to read it all- the true gems are the last two verses.   This book was written by someone (according to my study Bible) that was near the end of his life, he sees man in pursuit of so many things and vainly pursuing hopes and expectations- but faith teaches him that God has ordered all things according to his own purposes and that we need to accept our limitations.   The last two verses are the wr...
