Stagnant Water

So this past week we went to PA and left our pool unattended.  It is a small pool, only 12 foot around and 36 inches deep, so we don’t always run the filter, so it was turned off.  Neither of us checked the chlorine tab in the water and, although it was covered, the cover didn’t stay on for long.  We came home to an almost brown pool.  It was so dark green from the algae, it was disgusting.  We let it sit for a day wondering if we wanted to drain the entire thing or try to shock it back into submission.  After going out there and inspecting it closer, I made the decision to drain the whole thing and get on my hands and knees and scrub it out. (hence the reason for the late post this morning)

So as I was on my hands and knees in bleach water, algae and grime, I kept thinking- what a great devotional!  HAHAHAHA…  So often we let our lives, our relationships and our hearts stay stagnant for too long.  We let parts of our life not get stirred, filtered, treated.  We say that we will deal with things later and people later and don’t concentrate on friendships and on our relationship with God.  After a while, algae starts to grow, it starts to take over- it feeds and reproduces and ultimately you have to drain out everything in that part of your life to clean it out.

I know that I have let algae grow in quite a few friendships that I have due to business.  I have let algae grow and start taking over my relationship with God.  If we let it – the world creeps in and reproduces and starts taking over our lives.  We are told in Titus to refrain from ungodliness:

Titus 2:11-14 “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.  It teaches us to say “NO” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and Godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope – the glorious appearing of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.”

So I need to make sure that in my relationship with God, I don’t let the algae of life creep in and reproduce, in the relationships with my friends and relatives, I don’t let ungodliness creep in and take over.  After spending some time in stagnant water- that is the last thing that I ever want to be!!!!!

Center of God's Will

I was very blessed to go over to some new friend’s home last night and talk with them and others about life in general.   As the topic turned solely to missions late in the evening (as this couple used to travel around bringing the good news to kids around the world, and then lived in a different country for 3 years sharing the gospel) I said something like, it must feel amazing to be right in the center of God’s Will.   To have to rely on Him for protection from the most random events; to have to rely on God to take you out of situations that are dangerous; to rely on Him for every provision that you are given; and most importantly, to be brining the message of Christ to all nations under heaven.   Can you imagine?   Knowing that you are supposed to be right where you are, doing what you are doing, right when you are doing it because you have to, and have chosen to, rely on God for every little aspect of your life.   Well friends, I am not out spreading the me...

Daily Bread

I have a dog.  He is cute , but he is still a dog.  That means that he is reliant on me.  He likes me no matter what, If I am not around him, he flips out a little and has anxiety.  If others try to claim him or take care of him when I'm not around, he growls and barks at them.  My dog's name is Spike .  He is a Yorkie.  I promised my husband if he got me a girlie dog, I would name it something masculine so he wouldn't have to go outside and yell fru fru when calling our dog.  Spike knows that I take care of him.  He knows that my husband and I are the two that take care of him the most.  The kids try to play with him and he runs to us with the toys.  The kids try to take him out and he only comes back when one of us calls him.  He knows our voice and respects our voice.  He also is needy.  Like he relies on us to take him outside to do his business and to feed him and give him water.  Spike will let us know ...

Don't throw fits!

Yesterday I blogged about how we need to be like little children.   Jesus loves the little children.   He tells us that if we are not like them, we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.   I HAVE little children and they are amazing, but I have to assume that little children back in the day didn’t throw public fits or kick and scream and want their way.   Proof is actually in the Bible – they didn’t have the media helping their kids learn to curse their parents all the time.   The punishment for going against your father and mother were harsh!   See Leviticus 20:9 “If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death.   He has cursed his father or his mother, and his blood will be on his own head.” God wants us to be like the little children that he writes about in the Bible, not necessarily the kids that we see all the time around us now.   Some are very well behaved, but some just aren’t.   I can only assume that He wants us to foll...
