To do or not to do...

Have you ever felt like Noah?  Have you ever felt like you were called to do something.  Noah was CALLED to build the ark.  He didn’t have to, but God had plans for him.  The Bible says in Genesis 6:9-12 that “Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of is time and he walked with God. Noah had three sons; Shem, Ham and Japheth.  Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence.  God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways.”

So here Noah is, surrounded by a bunch of people, that haven’t really seen rain before.  They are already evil and corrupt, they are already laughing at him from before, and God calls him to make this Ark…  God tells Noah to build a boat.  A BOAT!  And not a small boat either, a HUGE boat.  So his neighbors and friends are looking at him as a quack.  Do you think that Noah ever questioned God?  Do you think that he said, um, are you SURE God?  A boat God?  That is crazy God.  People already hate me, I am going to have to get a night watchman to keep people away from committing me to a hospital!

Noah was 500 when he became a father for the first time, and 600 when he was told to go into the Ark.  So there are 100 years right there that his sons could be born, raised with a Godly outlook and build the Ark.  I am not sure exactly when God called Noah to build the Ark, but it had to be a horribly long process.  There weren’t power tools like there are now, and it was Him and His sons working on it.  Do you think that there were times that Noah questioned his calling.  Said, maybe I just didn’t hear God right.  Maybe it was a dream.  Maybe I really wasn’t called.

NO!  The Bible says in Genesis 6:22 “Noah did everything just as God commanded him.”  So even in times of doubt, he continued to work and do what God commanded him to do.  I WISH that God made himself crystal clear all the time like he had to have with Noah.  I would love to say when God calls us somewhere or to do something that we are always obedient.  On the contrary, even when we KNOW we are being called and led into something, we allow those around us and the devil to come in and plant seeds of doubt.  We allow people to tell us, that wont work or that will just cause this problem or that problem.

Things aren’t always 100% good when you follow God’s call.  It can be down right rough!  Noah really followed God- he took a step out of normalcy and really struck a nerve with his neighbors.  “God is going to save me and my family because you are all evil.”  There was a HUGE boat going up in his yard with no sea around.  But Noah trusted God.  HE TRUSTED THAT HIS CALLING WAS TRUE.  Have you ever felt called to do something and then all these problems arose?  You questioned your calling and questioned your reasoning and questioned everything?  Have you ever felt like you know better than God?  Well guess what – you don’t!  None of us do.

Jeremiah 29:11-13 “For I know the plans I have your for, ‘ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Center of God's Will

I was very blessed to go over to some new friend’s home last night and talk with them and others about life in general.   As the topic turned solely to missions late in the evening (as this couple used to travel around bringing the good news to kids around the world, and then lived in a different country for 3 years sharing the gospel) I said something like, it must feel amazing to be right in the center of God’s Will.   To have to rely on Him for protection from the most random events; to have to rely on God to take you out of situations that are dangerous; to rely on Him for every provision that you are given; and most importantly, to be brining the message of Christ to all nations under heaven.   Can you imagine?   Knowing that you are supposed to be right where you are, doing what you are doing, right when you are doing it because you have to, and have chosen to, rely on God for every little aspect of your life.   Well friends, I am not out spreading the me...

Daily Bread

I have a dog.  He is cute , but he is still a dog.  That means that he is reliant on me.  He likes me no matter what, If I am not around him, he flips out a little and has anxiety.  If others try to claim him or take care of him when I'm not around, he growls and barks at them.  My dog's name is Spike .  He is a Yorkie.  I promised my husband if he got me a girlie dog, I would name it something masculine so he wouldn't have to go outside and yell fru fru when calling our dog.  Spike knows that I take care of him.  He knows that my husband and I are the two that take care of him the most.  The kids try to play with him and he runs to us with the toys.  The kids try to take him out and he only comes back when one of us calls him.  He knows our voice and respects our voice.  He also is needy.  Like he relies on us to take him outside to do his business and to feed him and give him water.  Spike will let us know ...

The longest route...

There is no easy way around it, sometimes I take the hardest possible route to get anywhere.   During our re-make of our house, I purchase bar stools.   Our counter island is tall and so I measured t – it was 36 inches from the ground.   Therefore I purchased 29 inch bar stools thinking they would be perfect…   And they would have been had I measured from the ground to the trim that lines the bottom of the 36”.   In reality, I had 29” to play with and the stools that I purchased were tight against the lip under the island.   I put one together and realized my folly.   Looking on-line, I didn’t find any more that were comparable to the price I had paid and the style that I wanted but were only 24” tall.   When my husband came home, we decided to put the other three stools together and just deal with them.   On Sunday morning, before church, my husband took the bar stools outside and proceeded to cut 5” off each leg to make us 24” bar stool...
