Pretty Nails

I can’t even tell you how much I don’t want to be sitting here writing this right now.  I just have no motivation to do anything today.  I am exhausted and a  little cranky and well down right drawing a blank on what to write.  That was until I looked down on my nails. 

I got my nails done last night – I left my husband with the kids and went and had some girl time with a friend to get my nails done for a wedding I am going to be in on Saturday.  (my little baby sister!)  Finger nails are really rather silly.  Women spend all this time and money on them and what do we use them for?  We use them to scrape the goop off the table or help untie a shoe.  We make them “pretty” really for ourselves.  I can almost promise you that majority of men do not look at hands and say, “what amazing nails!” 

So what is the point of spending time, money and effort taking care of our nails?  I have to say, when I have my nails done, I feel so much prettier, I feel more kept, more presentable, more professional.  I feel as though I have more confidence when I get my nails done.  That is so silly because it is a simple adornment on my hands (since there is no way I would actually let me REAL nails grow out that long without biting them off). 

What does getting my nails accomplished other than to make me feel better?  (which is not a bad thing at all)  I think that we need to do some things for ourselves and to be sure to make ourselves look presentable and beautiful.  And if you have the money – it is good to take time to maintain y our appearance.  We take the time to maintain our outward appearance, but we need to be sure that we are taking the time to maintain our inward appearance too. 

Proverbs 31 verses 10-31 talk about the wife of noble character: 

“…she is worth far more than rubies.  Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.  … She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks…  She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy… She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple.. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her; … Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised…”

I am going to be sure to concentrate on my inward appearance also – ensuring that I am having God glorified in my life first.

    Wonderfully said. Nails do a lot for confidence and yes that is important (toes too. I feel so much better with a pedicure!) But it is our inward "appearance" that is most important to focus on <3

do I mis-use the Bible?

WOW!   This morning I sat and started to read through Ecclesiastes.   I don’t know if the author of Ecclesiastes, Perhaps King Solomon, had a very sarcastic view on life or if he was just babbling.   But I can definitely see how this book could get a lot of people into trouble if they don’t know the full book or continue to read.   There are verses in there that say things like; eat, drink and enjoy the days on earth because they are meaningless, it is good to enjoy your time on earth and do not worry about anything. To get the full meaning of the book, you need to read it all- the true gems are the last two verses.   This book was written by someone (according to my study Bible) that was near the end of his life, he sees man in pursuit of so many things and vainly pursuing hopes and expectations- but faith teaches him that God has ordered all things according to his own purposes and that we need to accept our limitations.   The last two verses are the wr...

Trust

I decided to do the whole “open your bible and see what verse pops out to you” today.   This it the first verse I saw and it was awesome!   God is so good! Proverbs 29:25 “Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.” I can’t tell you the number of times I haven’t said something to someone because I worried about what they would think of me.   I haven’t gone up to someone, obviously hurting, because I didn’t want them to reject me.   I haven’t shared the gospel even though the opportunity presented itself.   I have hoarded a project to myself because I wanted it done just so.   The other night when I was giving my talk to the MOPS group, I was able to share the gospel with them.   It was fantastic for me.   I don’t know if any of them accepted Christ, but it felt so right sharing the gospel.   Jesus calls us to make believers of all nations, He doesn’t say, only if you feel like it.   It is so ea...
