This morning, I tentatively stepped on the scale as I do
many mornings while the water warms up in my shower. It may not be the best practice in the world, but it is something
that I am in a terrible habit of doing.
Closing my eyes to not to see the numbers spinning out of control, I
wait until the spinning stops. It feels
like an eternity hearing the springs working overtime, spinning… in reality it is probably just a few seconds. Looking down, I see a number that surprises
me.
Lately, I have been watching what I eat and every once in a
while, working out. Ideally, I would
like to get to the weight that I was when I got married, and my un-realistic
goal is to loose weight even then. The
number this morning FINALLY broke the plateau I had been on for years. I finally broke to the weight that I was
before I got pregnant with my first child nearly 5 years ago! I looked for a solid minute at the number
that was looking back at me. I guess
home remodeling and improvement makes you loose weight.
It wasn’t quite the excitement that I was hoping for. I had been watching and weighing myself for
weeks and been watching my weight decrease little by little. I didn’t notice the big change.
I have been watching my kids grow daily, but don’t see the
big change that has gone on from birth to the age they are at now because I
have been watching it all this time.
Sometimes we look with disbelief at the blessings that we have been
given. God has just surprised us with a
blessing that we have a hard time fathoming.
Sometimes we don’t see how amazing the blessings are and take them for
granted because we have been watching little by little as they have started
going on.
How often do we look at something and not appreciate what it
is or has become because we have seen it gradually happening. We don’t see the success we have because we
have been working at it for years and year.
James 1:
17 Every
good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the
Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. 18 In the
exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would
be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.
Today, we need to appreciate that every good thing is from
the Lord, that our accomplishments are from Him and not by our own
successes. God has given us talents and
abilities that we are able to glorify Him with and we should. He didn’t give us blessings and gifts and
talents only to use to bless ourselves, but to bless others and the world. EVERY good thing is from the Lord. Amen!
