Every Good Thing

This morning, I tentatively stepped on the scale as I do many mornings while the water warms up in my shower.  It may not be the best practice in the world, but it is something that I am in a terrible habit of doing.  Closing my eyes to not to see the numbers spinning out of control, I wait until the spinning stops.  It feels like an eternity hearing the springs working overtime, spinning…  in reality it is probably just a few seconds.  Looking down, I see a number that surprises me.

Lately, I have been watching what I eat and every once in a while, working out.  Ideally, I would like to get to the weight that I was when I got married, and my un-realistic goal is to loose weight even then.  The number this morning FINALLY broke the plateau I had been on for years.  I finally broke to the weight that I was before I got pregnant with my first child nearly 5 years ago!  I looked for a solid minute at the number that was looking back at me.  I guess home remodeling and improvement makes you loose weight.

It wasn’t quite the excitement that I was hoping for.  I had been watching and weighing myself for weeks and been watching my weight decrease little by little.  I didn’t notice the big change.

I have been watching my kids grow daily, but don’t see the big change that has gone on from birth to the age they are at now because I have been watching it all this time.  Sometimes we look with disbelief at the blessings that we have been given.  God has just surprised us with a blessing that we have a hard time fathoming.  Sometimes we don’t see how amazing the blessings are and take them for granted because we have been watching little by little as they have started going on.

How often do we look at something and not appreciate what it is or has become because we have seen it gradually happening.  We don’t see the success we have because we have been working at it for years and year.

James 1:
17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. 18 In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.

Today, we need to appreciate that every good thing is from the Lord, that our accomplishments are from Him and not by our own successes.  God has given us talents and abilities that we are able to glorify Him with and we should.  He didn’t give us blessings and gifts and talents only to use to bless ourselves, but to bless others and the world.  EVERY good thing is from the Lord.  Amen!

To Do or to Be - that is the question...

“Martha, Martha,” The Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed.   Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10: 41-2 Keeping up with caring for my kids, cleaning, cooking, volunteering, part time work, friendships, volunteering again, and doing special events with my kids, I race around trying to do everything for everyone.   I usually end up failing miserably.   It is inevitable that I will upset someone some time and make someone upset with me, usually about something small.   The devil is in the details.   Have you ever got so caught up in something you forgot to enjoy it?   You get caught up in parenting JUST right, so you forget to enjoy the fun and exciting moments.   You get caught up in rules and regulations or doing good works for the church and forget to enjoy what it is really all about.   Martha had Jesus over- HUGE DEAL!   Can you imagine havi...

The Easter Story with M&Ms

I am preparing for my oldest daughter's school party for Easter.  I was racking my brain trying to figure out a cheap, but awesome party favor to give to everyone.  One of the things that I love about her going to a Christian School is I can do things like this. I looked at all the Easter M&M Poems out there, and didn't really like them, they didn't flow quite right or, which may have bothered me more, they didn't go in the order they set out in the beginning of the poem.  We have a discount grocery store in town and they had large bags of M&Ms on sale for $1.80 so I bought a bunch and will be splitting them up and putting them with this poem that I made up instead.  It is definitely inspired by the Christmas one that is floating around out there and a few of the other Easter ones- so I can't take credit for the creativity of the M W 3 and E idea.... The TRUE Easter story isn't about a bunny - it is about a Salvation - about a Savior that died on the...

predictions...

We were all privileged to see the recent hype about the end of the world coming n May 21 st 2011.   The time came and passed without a rapture, without an earthquake, without a storm…   What were those people thinking and feeling?   This prediction made so many question Christianity and question God in general.   Now there were some good aspects of this prediction.   It got people thinking and talking about salvation and their eternal destiny… and, well, that is all I can think of.   Now lets look at what the non-Christian’s saw: a man, claiming to know the answer, claiming that he was right, who had a following, a way to spread his message and an amazing amount of money which usually makes you right in America.   If you were a non-Christian and you saw this guy talking and then May 21 st came and went, you would either think that Christianity was a crock, or that everything that the Bible says is a lie because his equation came from the Bible. ...
