wedding bands

I wear a wedding band on my left hand.  I don’t do it because it is stylish (although I do like it).  I don’t do it because I HAVE to.  I do it because I want to do it.  I want to wear something that shows the world that I am proud to be married to the most awesome man in the world.  I am PROUD to be married to my husband and I am going to stay true to him.

They are just rings.  It isn’t like there is some magical power in them.  It isn’t like they are commanded in the Bible to wear them.  It isn’t like on the days that I forget to wear them (because they are a little too big) I am any less married to him.  They are just rings.  A symbol of my dedication to the life that I have started with my husband and the one I continue to lead.  The two rings that adorn my second finger on my left hand are rings that he chose to show his love to me.

My older sister gave me this beautiful cross necklace for my high school graduation.  It is silver and loopy and totally my style.  For far too long it has sat in my jewelry box.  I used to wear it every day and it would start up great conversations.  People would see it and then know that I was a Christian.  I always thought that there was an actual verse that stated “and they will know we are Christians by our love.”  There actually isn’t, but it is a great song!!!  The Bible does tell us that we are the bride of Christ and that the church is to be the bridegroom of Christ and that that church isn’t the actual building, but instead is us, the people.  But there is nothing in the Bible that specifically says that we have to wear something dedicating our lives to Christ.  We are to make a public profession of faith and be baptized to where the old is gone and the new will come – but it never says – put on this specific necklace.

This morning I went and dug out my little, delicate, cross necklace and let it adorn my neck once again.  I don’t plan on taking it off.  What a symbol of love!!!  Every time that I look at my rings I remember the day that my husband planned out his proposal and our wedding with all its little quirks and mistakes.  I think about our great life that we have together, even though it isn’t always perfect and we do not always get along.  Every time I look at my cross necklace or feel it around my neck or go to fiddle with it, I will be reminded of Christ’s sacrifice for me and his death on the cross so that I may live.

Christ died for me so that I could have eternal life.  I am not saying that everyone needs to go around wearing a cross necklace, but if we all put something on, or something in our lives that reminds us of Christ daily, then how much more likely are we to follow him that day?  It is like when you drive around with the cross on your car or that little fish symbol- you are less likely to go cut someone off or give them the finger because you know that you have that symbol on your car.

So not only will it keep me accountable, not only will I show people that I am a Christian by my love, but it will also show them, if they had any question, that I choose to be a Christian daily by wearing my little cross necklace.

  1. Great blog! It's so logical, wearing a cross to let others know we believe & also to hold us a accountable because we are "representing" Him. Maybe if someone were to have a question they would see us as a beacon, someone to come to, to ask about God.

Center of God's Will

I was very blessed to go over to some new friend’s home last night and talk with them and others about life in general.   As the topic turned solely to missions late in the evening (as this couple used to travel around bringing the good news to kids around the world, and then lived in a different country for 3 years sharing the gospel) I said something like, it must feel amazing to be right in the center of God’s Will.   To have to rely on Him for protection from the most random events; to have to rely on God to take you out of situations that are dangerous; to rely on Him for every provision that you are given; and most importantly, to be brining the message of Christ to all nations under heaven.   Can you imagine?   Knowing that you are supposed to be right where you are, doing what you are doing, right when you are doing it because you have to, and have chosen to, rely on God for every little aspect of your life.   Well friends, I am not out spreading the me...

Daily Bread

I have a dog.  He is cute , but he is still a dog.  That means that he is reliant on me.  He likes me no matter what, If I am not around him, he flips out a little and has anxiety.  If others try to claim him or take care of him when I'm not around, he growls and barks at them.  My dog's name is Spike .  He is a Yorkie.  I promised my husband if he got me a girlie dog, I would name it something masculine so he wouldn't have to go outside and yell fru fru when calling our dog.  Spike knows that I take care of him.  He knows that my husband and I are the two that take care of him the most.  The kids try to play with him and he runs to us with the toys.  The kids try to take him out and he only comes back when one of us calls him.  He knows our voice and respects our voice.  He also is needy.  Like he relies on us to take him outside to do his business and to feed him and give him water.  Spike will let us know ...

The longest route...

There is no easy way around it, sometimes I take the hardest possible route to get anywhere.   During our re-make of our house, I purchase bar stools.   Our counter island is tall and so I measured t – it was 36 inches from the ground.   Therefore I purchased 29 inch bar stools thinking they would be perfect…   And they would have been had I measured from the ground to the trim that lines the bottom of the 36”.   In reality, I had 29” to play with and the stools that I purchased were tight against the lip under the island.   I put one together and realized my folly.   Looking on-line, I didn’t find any more that were comparable to the price I had paid and the style that I wanted but were only 24” tall.   When my husband came home, we decided to put the other three stools together and just deal with them.   On Sunday morning, before church, my husband took the bar stools outside and proceeded to cut 5” off each leg to make us 24” bar stool...
