Attitude Adjustment

It is so easy to get discouraged when you keep doing something over and over again that is God’s will and God’s direction and not seeing His blessings out of it.  It is so easy to say, I am doing something wrong, or I have to change what I am doing.  What if what you are doing is specifically in the Lord’s commands though?  What if you aren’t seeing a difference going to church?  How about sharing the gospel?  Or even working with the church in certain areas.  Things that God has commanded us to do, things that God is telling us to follow, but we aren’t seeing any fruits of our labor.

I can assure you that we are not the only ones not seeing these fruits.  I have been struggling with an issue recently.  One that has stressed me out, made me sad, angry and all sorts of emotions.  I have felt this way.  It is something that god has commanded me to do, something that is in His will, something that I truly feel called to do,  but I have hit road block after road block.  Last night after a church meeting, I asked my pastor, what is the point of me continuing to do this specific task (not related to the meeting at hand).   Being the great man of God that he is, he was able to pull a scripture out of thin air that was perfect for this situation.  Man how I wish I could do that!

He told me Galatians 6:9

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”  It continues… “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”

What a refreshing verse.  Knowing that focusing on God and doing good- does have a harvest that we can reap.  Knowing that we need to continue to do good.

So today – it is a short devotion, but one that has really changed my attitude.

do I mis-use the Bible?

WOW!   This morning I sat and started to read through Ecclesiastes.   I don’t know if the author of Ecclesiastes, Perhaps King Solomon, had a very sarcastic view on life or if he was just babbling.   But I can definitely see how this book could get a lot of people into trouble if they don’t know the full book or continue to read.   There are verses in there that say things like; eat, drink and enjoy the days on earth because they are meaningless, it is good to enjoy your time on earth and do not worry about anything. To get the full meaning of the book, you need to read it all- the true gems are the last two verses.   This book was written by someone (according to my study Bible) that was near the end of his life, he sees man in pursuit of so many things and vainly pursuing hopes and expectations- but faith teaches him that God has ordered all things according to his own purposes and that we need to accept our limitations.   The last two verses are the wr...

What do you fight about?

I heard a blood curdling scream from the other room, followed by the cries of my other child and then a smack.   I had been sitting at the computer, and leaned my head back closed my eyes, took a deep breath and went to encounter the argument head on.   Apparently my youngest daughter was playing with a stuffed giraffe that my oldest daughter sometimes sleeps with.   Amidst the crying and tears, I was able to formulate the events that took place.   My youngest daughter had gone to the toy room and gotten the giraffe (a green 16” giraffe with brown spots) out of the room and brought it into the other room.   Here, the older sister saw that the coveted giraffe was not in her room and grabbed it from her sister.   The younger one screamed and bit the older sister who then cried and hit the little sister.   As I took another cleansing breath I began dealing with the issue at hand.   It is very difficult to reason with a 2 and 3 year old and let alone ...

Don't throw fits!

Yesterday I blogged about how we need to be like little children.   Jesus loves the little children.   He tells us that if we are not like them, we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.   I HAVE little children and they are amazing, but I have to assume that little children back in the day didn’t throw public fits or kick and scream and want their way.   Proof is actually in the Bible – they didn’t have the media helping their kids learn to curse their parents all the time.   The punishment for going against your father and mother were harsh!   See Leviticus 20:9 “If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death.   He has cursed his father or his mother, and his blood will be on his own head.” God wants us to be like the little children that he writes about in the Bible, not necessarily the kids that we see all the time around us now.   Some are very well behaved, but some just aren’t.   I can only assume that He wants us to foll...
