Don't Waste

Some people are really picky eaters.  They hardly eat anything until you put the right thing in front of them and then they become this eating machine.  It warms my heart to see all the food gone and everyone enjoying the meals and the food that I make.  It drives me crazy when I have to throw out partially eaten food.  I have saved it to try to make my kids eat it later, told them they aren’t getting anything else all night long, that doesn’t seem to phase them at all.  I have tried to explain that there are hungry people that live around us that don’t get any food what-so-ever, but that doesn’t sink in at the age that they are.  I want to grab some adults though and inform them of this fact.

Our church has the new director of the food pantry- she is a pretty great lady.  She sees first hand the hungry people in our town.  Our town has a lot of hunger, but if you choose not to see it, it isn’t noticeable at all.  The schools have over 50% getting free lunches and when our church provides food for kids around the neighborhood, they come a runnin….

Sodom was a terrible city, they were rich and pompous.  They had hungry people surrounding them- but they didn’t care.  Ezekiel 16:49 describes it like this; “Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and a prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy.”

For those that don’t know – Sodom was destroyed- it was burned to the ground by the Lord and no one survived.  Lot had lived there and he was a man of God trying to do what was right, but no one was listening to him.  No one wanted to help and no one wanted to listen.  So the Lord told him to move on – to flee from there – to go where he could really be used.  So Lot followed orders.

I hope that you aren’t living in a Sodom.  I truly hope that everyone realizes that poverty IS around him or her.  It isn’t to the extreme of a third world country or maybe some are, but the poverty might be choosing to pay a medical bill or choosing to feed their kids.  Choosing between paying their rent or eating.  It is very important that we, as the body of Christ don’t waste our time, money, food and effort…  That we use them to glorify God and to feed those who are needy – not just real food, but also spiritual food.

To Do or to Be - that is the question...

“Martha, Martha,” The Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed.   Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10: 41-2 Keeping up with caring for my kids, cleaning, cooking, volunteering, part time work, friendships, volunteering again, and doing special events with my kids, I race around trying to do everything for everyone.   I usually end up failing miserably.   It is inevitable that I will upset someone some time and make someone upset with me, usually about something small.   The devil is in the details.   Have you ever got so caught up in something you forgot to enjoy it?   You get caught up in parenting JUST right, so you forget to enjoy the fun and exciting moments.   You get caught up in rules and regulations or doing good works for the church and forget to enjoy what it is really all about.   Martha had Jesus over- HUGE DEAL!   Can you imagine havi...

The Easter Story with M&Ms

I am preparing for my oldest daughter's school party for Easter.  I was racking my brain trying to figure out a cheap, but awesome party favor to give to everyone.  One of the things that I love about her going to a Christian School is I can do things like this. I looked at all the Easter M&M Poems out there, and didn't really like them, they didn't flow quite right or, which may have bothered me more, they didn't go in the order they set out in the beginning of the poem.  We have a discount grocery store in town and they had large bags of M&Ms on sale for $1.80 so I bought a bunch and will be splitting them up and putting them with this poem that I made up instead.  It is definitely inspired by the Christmas one that is floating around out there and a few of the other Easter ones- so I can't take credit for the creativity of the M W 3 and E idea.... The TRUE Easter story isn't about a bunny - it is about a Salvation - about a Savior that died on the...

predictions...

We were all privileged to see the recent hype about the end of the world coming n May 21 st 2011.   The time came and passed without a rapture, without an earthquake, without a storm…   What were those people thinking and feeling?   This prediction made so many question Christianity and question God in general.   Now there were some good aspects of this prediction.   It got people thinking and talking about salvation and their eternal destiny… and, well, that is all I can think of.   Now lets look at what the non-Christian’s saw: a man, claiming to know the answer, claiming that he was right, who had a following, a way to spread his message and an amazing amount of money which usually makes you right in America.   If you were a non-Christian and you saw this guy talking and then May 21 st came and went, you would either think that Christianity was a crock, or that everything that the Bible says is a lie because his equation came from the Bible. ...
